## Verified facts (checked September 2026)

- The crossing is a public street in front of Shibuya Station's Hachiko Exit; no ticket is needed to cross or to see Hachiko.
- Five roads meet: five crosswalks and ONE diagonal (not an X). Scramble signal since 1973. Not Japan's first scramble (Kumamoto, 1968).
- The lights cycle roughly every 2 minutes; the pedestrian phase is well under a minute (about 40 to 50 seconds).
- The diagonal is about 44 m, about 40 seconds at a normal walking pace.
- People per green light: well over a thousand at busy times; peak estimates 2,500 to 3,000 (shopping street association). JNTO: 1,000 to 2,500.
- 'World's busiest crossing' is a popular label, not a measured title.
- SHIBUYA SKY: open-air rooftop 229 m up on Shibuya Scramble Square; 10:00 to 22:30, last entry 21:20; timed tickets;
  tripods, selfie sticks, loose hats, bags, food and drink not allowed on the rooftop (lockers on 46F); can close in bad weather.
- Starbucks SHIBUYA TSUTAYA (reopened 25 Apr 2024): the whole 2F faces the crossing; the window area is mostly standing room.
- MAG8 on MAGNET by SHIBUYA109: ticketed rooftop facing the crossing, drink included, 10:00 to 22:00 (renewal opened 3 Mar 2026).
- The 2F walkway between Shibuya Station and Mark City (Taro Okamoto's mural Myth of Tomorrow) overlooks the crossing; no ticket needed.

## Corrections to claims found elsewhere

- There is one diagonal crosswalk, not two: the junction has five roads.
- Shibuya was not Japan's first scramble crossing (Kumamoto had one in 1968).
- '3,000 people per light' is a peak estimate from a shopping street association, not an official count.
- The Starbucks view still exists after the 2024 SHIBUYA TSUTAYA renovation (2F); SHARE LOUNGE is on 3F to 4F, not 2F.
- L'Occitane Cafe above the crossing is still open (as L'Occitane Cafe SHIBUYA TOKYO).
- The Shibuya Station redevelopment runs to around FY2034, not 2027.
